Ana has been a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner for more than 12 years and a Certified Nurse Midwife for more than 9 years. She has a strong conventional medicine background spanning emergency medicine, women’s health, pregnancy and birth, as well as international and refugee healthcare. She has also studied Functional Medicine extensively with the Institute for Functional Medicine, as well as with esteemed mentors such as Dr. Sara Gottfried, among others. She continues her education on an ongoing basis, and is self-described as a "lifelong learner.” Combining the best of conventional, integrative and functional medicine allows her to provide effective, well-rounded care for her patients.
She specializes in functional nutrition, especially in the management of women's health, chronic disease, weight loss, and in the pregnancy and postpartum phases of life. Ana also has a passion for integrative pediatrics and enjoys helping parents navigate teh unique health issues that children present with evidence-based integrative medicine. She also enjoys natural hormone balancing for women in their reproductive and menopausal years, as well as adrenal imbalances. While she is happy to utilize all tools available to her to help patients improve, she particularly enjoys when patients desire to commit to deep lifestyle changes, and likes helping to empower them to make the dietary, movement, and mindset changes necessary to optimize their health. “It’s how we eat, drink, think and move!"
Philosophy of Care:
“I believe that the deepest healing occurs when we address our entire being, from cell to spirit. Life is meant to be more than just getting by - it’s about thriving, and we need to address the whole self in order to do that. Bio-individuality is also very important in designing the best healthcare plan, since no two people are alike. Therefore, I believe that healing best occurs in a collaborative relationship between me and my patients, where I provide a safe and non-judgmental place to listen to your story - and that unique story often holds the key to your healing. It is not about being healthy per se - it's about what being healthy allows you to do, and how it allows you to be, in this life.”
Ana graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Psychology in 1996 and was inducted into the PsyChi Honor Society.
