Dori is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has experience working in the mental health field since 2002. She has worked with teens and adults experiencing a wide range of issues, including self-esteem, spirituality, life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, domestic violence, chronic mental illness and chronic pain.
Areas of Specialty:
Dori has taught yoga and mindfulness in the public sector for 9 years and is a registered yoga teacher as well as certified in Accessible Yoga (https://accessibleyogatraining). Philosophy of Care: Healing begins with a trusting, positive relationship between counselor and client and from there, the possibilities are limitless. The client already has the capacity to evolve when they walk through the door and my role is to assist and support in that evolution. I recognize and value each person’s unique set of strengths, backgrounds, spiritual beliefs and goals and work with the client to co-create the outcome they are looking for.

Extracurricular Activities and Personal Interests: Dori makes it a priority to pursue continuing education whether it be through self-study or attending mental health trainings in order to stay informed of the current best practices.
A typical week for Dori is spent horse back riding, doing yoga, going to the gym or a bike ride or hike, listening to a podcast or Audible, spending time with family and if possible, finding the time for “non-doing.”
I am an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with 35 years of experience providing acute primary care, hospital care, and general care. My focus is optimal well being and healthy aging through hormone health and lifestyle awareness. Maintaining healthy hormone levels throughout the lifespan is critical to aging well in terms of heart, brain, bone disease prevention and contributes to an overall sense of well being. Other areas of interest include the emerging realm of peptide therapies, amino acids formulated to mimic or enhance cellular processes that restore and optimize function, and in nutrigenomics, the study of relationships between what we eat and how our genetic profile interacts with input on a molecular level.
I have been in love with Alaska since moving here from Northern Canada, in 1990. I never tire of the beauty that surrounds us, and the endless opportunities Alaska offers us. I have a goal to climb every inch of the Turnagain Arm, and end each hike at the Turnagain Arm Pit BBQ – a family venture my spouse Jack and I started as a hobby 9 years ago.
I am happy to have found a new home with Avante Medical Center, which has provided a healthy team-oriented work environment that is supportive to both its providers and patients alike.
Ana has been a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner for more than 12 years and a Certified Nurse Midwife for more than 9 years. She has a strong conventional medicine background spanning emergency medicine, women’s health, pregnancy and birth, as well as international and refugee healthcare. She has also studied Functional Medicine extensively with the Institute for Functional Medicine, as well as with esteemed mentors such as Dr. Sara Gottfried, among others. She continues her education on an ongoing basis, and is self-described as a "lifelong learner.” Combining the best of conventional, integrative and functional medicine allows her to provide effective, well-rounded care for her patients.
She specializes in functional nutrition, especially in the management of women's health, chronic disease, weight loss, and in the pregnancy and postpartum phases of life. Ana also has a passion for integrative pediatrics and enjoys helping parents navigate teh unique health issues that children present with evidence-based integrative medicine. She also enjoys natural hormone balancing for women in their reproductive and menopausal years, as well as adrenal imbalances. While she is happy to utilize all tools available to her to help patients improve, she particularly enjoys when patients desire to commit to deep lifestyle changes, and likes helping to empower them to make the dietary, movement, and mindset changes necessary to optimize their health. “It’s how we eat, drink, think and move!"
Philosophy of Care:
“I believe that the deepest healing occurs when we address our entire being, from cell to spirit. Life is meant to be more than just getting by - it’s about thriving, and we need to address the whole self in order to do that. Bio-individuality is also very important in designing the best healthcare plan, since no two people are alike. Therefore, I believe that healing best occurs in a collaborative relationship between me and my patients, where I provide a safe and non-judgmental place to listen to your story - and that unique story often holds the key to your healing. It is not about being healthy per se - it's about what being healthy allows you to do, and how it allows you to be, in this life.”
Ana graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Psychology in 1996 and was inducted into the PsyChi Honor Society. After working as an international climbing guide until 2001, she went on to the University of California, San Francisco where she received her Master of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2004 and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She then went on to a post-Master’s graduate program for Nurse-Midwifery in 2006 at Frontier Nursing University, the oldest nurse-midwifery program in the country.
Ana continuously adds to her didactic education by regularly attending educational conferences in evidence-based medicine, Functional Medicine and Integrative Medicine throughout the country.
